Willie Wombat's Walk

Willie Wombat's Walk, a finalist in the Eric Hoffer Awards, is about an elementary school age kid who just happens to be a wombat. Willie Wombat feels horrible because he is not invited to a birthday party. Willie's wise mother stops him from moping around the house and gets him to go for a walk. On this walk, Willie, who thinks he knows why he wasn't invited, learns many other friends weren't invited either. He invites them to his house to play and before they know it, they are having a great unintended party. The story is about the value of friends and a good way to handle rejection. Older children will see that each character in the story assumes they know why they weren't invited. All of their assumptions are wrong. The characters in the story are adorable
